We've all heard of the Battersea Dogs Home, of course. But did you know that the organisation doesn't operate solely from Battersea, but has branches in Windsor (Berkshire) and Brand's Hatch (Kent) as well?
While the organisation is popularly known as the Battersea Dogs Home, its title proper is Battersea Dogs & Cats Home, so it's good to know that lost cats have the might of this organisation looking after their interests too.
The home's laudable aim is "never to turn away a dog or cat in need of help" and in a city as big as London, it's likely that they will have a busy time reuniting these companion animals with their owners and providing temporary accommodation for animals who need to find a new owner.
Battersea Dogs & Cats home has operated since 1860 and is financed by charity donations - over £12million is 2006 alone.
If you're in the area, but not actually looking to rehome a cat or dog, or find a lost pet, you can still take a look round. The website says "Battersea Dogs & Cats Home is open to the public between 1.00pm – 4.00pm during the week and from 10.30am – 4.00pm at weekends. During your time you will be able to visit our public kennels and cattery." So if you want to take a look for yourself and see the good work they do, you are welcome to go along. I'm sure they wouldn't refuse any financial donations you'd wish to make while you're there.
Great information.
